Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib (5N 6D)


The region of Valley of flowers is rich in varied Flora and fauna. The valley of flowers was declared as the National Park of India in the year 1982 and now is a UNESCO world heritage site. The virgin beauty of this mystical valley spread across 87.5 Sq.kms has always lured botanist, nature lovers & adventure lovers.
Hemkund Sahib (also spelled Hemkunt) is a Sikh place of worship and pilgrimage. It is devoted to Guru Gobind Singh (1666–1708), the tenth Sikh Guru, and finds mention in Dasam Granth, a work dictated by Guruji himself. With its setting of a glacial lake surrounded by seven mountain peaks, each adorned by a Nishan Sahib (Sikh flag) on its cliff.

Day 1: Getting to base camp, Govind Ghat

Altitude: 6,300 ft
Time taken: 11 hours drive to Govind Ghat. Pick up from Rishikesh at 6.30 am.
The trek to Valley of Flowers (VoF) and Hemkund starts a little beyond Joshimath, at a pilgrim hamlet called Govind Ghat. Leave Haridwar or Rishikesh early in the morning and travel along River Alakananda on the Badrinath highway. The roads are dangerously cut on mountains edges and at times, you only see the river flowing in the gorge deep below.

Day 2: Govind Ghat to Ghangria

Altitude: 6,300 ft to 9,600 ft
Time taken: 13 km, 6-7 hours trek

Trek gradient: Easy-moderate. Gradual ascent throughout on a well- defined trail Water sources: Carry sufficient water. You can refill your water bottles at any of the several dhabas that you will find on the trail. Well defined trail alternately sunny and shaded to approach a tabular land, when you know you are close to Ghangria. Night stay at Ghangria.

Day 3: Ghangria to Valley of Flowers and back

Altitude: 9,600 ft to 11,500 ft and back
Time taken: 6-7 hours, 4 km each way
Trek gradient: Easy. Flat walk in the valley

Water sources: Carry 2 litres of water. You can refill your water bottles from streams that you will find in the Valley, after a couple of hours of trekking. Packed lunch from Ghangria on the Valley of Flowers trek day. Overnight camping isn’t allowed either. Return along the same path by early afternoon. Overnight stay in Ghangria.

Day 4: Ghangria to Hemkund Sahib and back
Altitude: 9,600 ft to 14,107 ft and back
Time taken: 9-10 hours, 6 km each way
Trek gradient: Moderate – difficult.

Steep ascent for about 4 hours to reach Hemkund Sahib and steep descent all the way back. Water sources: Carry sufficient water. You can refill your water bottles at the hotels that line the trail. We leave early to Reach Hemkund Sahib as the trail is tough. There is a lake behind the Gurudwara is crystal clear and shows the reflection of the surrounding mountains. Around
here the Himalayan flower(Brahma Kamal) grows abundantly. We leave Hemkund early afternoon to get back to Ghangria via the same trail. Overnight stay in Ghangria.

Day 5: Ghangria to Govind Ghat
Altitude: 9,600 ft to 6,300 ft
Time taken: 6-7 hours, 13 kms
Trek gradient: Easy

Water sources: Carry sufficient water. You can refill your water bottles at the several dhabas that line
the trail. Overnight stay at Govind ghat.

Day 6: Govind Ghat to Rishikesh
Drive back to Rishikesh, 11 hours.

If a trek is called off at the last moment due to a natural calamity/unforeseen circumstances (like rains, earthquake, landslides, strike, bandh etc), Hostel will refund full amount to the guests.

  • Payments: Payment for the trek in advance is mandatory and can be done online through credit/debit card or net banking. Cash or Paytm is also accepted.
  • Cancellation: One-week free cancellation policy. In case informed a week before the trek we will give full refund otherwise guests will be charged 50% as cancellation fees.

  • The climber must be fit and have sufficient stamina to cover 5 km of distance in 50 minutes without a stress.
  • The climber should be able to carry a 8 kg backpack.
